Un tout nouveau Café Pouchkine à Madeleine

It is a nice concept whose name comes from a legend. Its origin can be found in a well-known song by Gilbert Bécaud. The artist sang "Nathalie" in 1954 in Moscow: "She spoke in sober sentences, of the October revolution, I already thought, after visiting the tomb of Lenin, we would go to the Pushkin cafe, drink a hot chocolate..." ». The song was a resounding success in both France and Russia. The Pushkin myth was born.

In 1999, the Russian restaurateur Andrei Dellos built the concept created from scratch in the historical center of Moscow, near the Pushkin Theater. A second restaurant opened at Printemps Haussmann in 2010 and another 4 between 2013 and 2016 in Paris, London, and New York. The Café Pushkin at the Madeleine is the last born of this beautiful fraternity. What will you discover in this exceptional spot?

 

The Café Pushkin at the Madeleine is located at the corner of boulevard de la Madeleine and place de la Madeleine. The pastry shop, the tea room, the restaurant, the grocery store, and the bar are located on three levels over a total of 600 m² (6458 sq ft). Each floor offers a beautiful view of the Madeleine Church.

Muscovite painters, decorators, carvers, and cabinetmakers worked on a documented, well-furnished, and narrative interior design that incorporated ornamental elements from the St. Petersburg Palace and the Tsars' summer residences. Many older pieces of decoration have been correlated into the design.

The Café Pushkin is open daily. You can go for coffee, have an aperitif on the terrace, enjoy a pastry, or enjoy a gourmet lunch or dinner set after the traditional 17th and 18th century cooking. Many dishes are inspired by the cookbooks of the Tsars' chefs. 

The menu offers both formulas, a selection of snacks, and à la carte dishes. Café Pushkin combines its authentic recipes with those created with the help of Ducasse Conseil.

There are Russian cuisine classics plus a few other treats: Piroshkis, borscht, beet soup, caviars, beef Stroganoff and pelmeni ceps and foie gras, herring mimosa millefeuilles, thin crayfish tarts with porcini mushrooms, sturgeon in delicate jelly with Aquitaine caviar, Benedict eggs on blini.

The dessert menu is rich with thirty desserts. The chef behind the creations is Nina Métayer, who was previously a pastry chef at Jean-François Piège.

The range of pastries is a real treat for the eyes. For example, the Pavlova, which is a pastry made of chestnut cream set with a meringue, placed on a biscuit, topped with a glazed chestnut.

The mixture of structures offers melting, spongy, crunchy, and beautiful harmonies of measured sweets, well balanced by soft creams.

 

You can also enjoy the romanticism of the "Matryoshka" Yule log with a chocolate crumble, crispy spices, and pecan base, to eat at the café or take away on order, 78 € for 6.

As for the grocery store, it offers smoked salmon, salmon eggs, caviars, homemade tarama, caviars, pithiviers, pierogis... not to mention the unconditional assortment of vodkas. 

 

It is a very nice spot and the result is, we must admit, quite convincing both in terms of decoration, service, and of course culinary interest.
